Stored Up in His Heart

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

She tucked her prayers in her birthday box. Some were desires long held. Each paper held a piece of who she is and the dreams of who she wants to become. She chose to give them to God instead of hiding them in her heart.

When she carried her own burdens, they weighted her down. They seemed impossible. Written down they were small. Just a few pieces of paper. His hands were big enough to hold them all.

A few days after she showed me the box, she began to see God specifically answer some of her prayers. Her trust in Him grew. Her faith flourished.

There is power in writing down our hopes, dreams and prayers. We would be wise to follow my daughter's example and find a special place to store them. And the very best place will be His heart.

  1. This is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing. I might make a box also for my daughter like this, for her to know more about God.

    1. This box was a gift from her just older cousin who's in many ways like her big sister. I think that would be a beautiful gift for your daughter!

  2. That is so sweet! And SMART! I just today wrote on my blog (while advocating for churches to host support groups for folks with depression) that my anxieties always sound smaller outside my head than they do inside it. It's amazing what getting our hopes and fears and dreams OUT can do. I may just have to make myself a box - and share it with someone.

P.S. - I would really love to get together with you sometime. When we "met" on the Southern Writers Blog (mine was the story of the guy who ordered the root beer and the root beer float) you suggested meeting at Starbucks. If you're still willing to meet somewhere (Starbucks is fine, or anywhere else you like!), would you please send me an email? memphismama2011 [at] aol [dot] com Thanks!!! :)

    1. Julie, I'm thrilled to hear about you championing support groups. Our church, Hope in Cordova, has just about every support group there is meeting there throughout the week. It is a precious thing when broken people just like us can welcome others just as they are and help them find hope and healing.

On the Bucks...just sent you an email! :)

  3. Shannon, I love the idea of a prayer box for my daughters. Thank you for sharing your daughter's inspiration. I'm going to suggest it to my daughter. She loves making things and decorating them with her own style. I think she will really embrace the concept of handing her prayers over to God.

    Many blessings to you friend,
    ~Rosann

  4. Wonderful as always Shannon! It's been said that when we write down our thoughts it becomes more than just a thought...it becomes action. Thanks for sharing with us sister! -Blessings, Amy

  5. Great idea! Because I have a concentration disorder I always write my prayers in a notebook. To organizer my mind while I write. So I stay more focused in what I do.

About your question. The book I read now is: Loving God with All Your Mind. Have you also read this book from Elizabeth George?
