One Thing...That Will Change Your Life

One thing I ask of the Lord…
Psalm 27:4

“Honey, I need a pair of underwear.” It was a basic need from the lips of a man already packed for his week-long trip. But I spent the prior day diligent in the laundry room. I put away every washed pair. How could my day’s work not be enough?

Like a blanket, old feelings welled up within and suffocated me.

You’ll never make him happy.
You’re a failure as a wife.
Your best isn’t enough.

I immediately ratted my husband out to God. He could soooo do something about this…and I was sure He was on my side.

Lord, make him more appreciative.
Lord, make him more supportive.
Lord, change him.

My laundry had followed me away from the dryer. I had a laundry list of things I wanted God to do in him. He whispered His answer in my ear. One thing I ask of the Lord.

What if we only asked one thing of God?

One thing for our marriage.

One thing for our children.

One thing...

What would our one thing be?

Today, I’ll be hanging out at the Moms Together Community. Join me there to learn the 8 “one thing” prayers that changed my life.

  1. Laundry really does bring out the worst in us, huh? Or at least it does me. I love the question, what is one thing we'd ask for..I'm going to think about that today. Thank you for making me think. :)

  2. If I could ask for one thing, it would be that my husband remembers what I tell him. He so often forgets what I have told him that it irritates me. There are 100 more prayers I have, but that one comes to the front of my mind on my prayers.

good refelection! Following the FB group now.

    1. Oh my be careful God just might turn your hubby into an elephant. ;) Seriously, having a hubby that remembers would be such a blessing. I'm big on email reminders because somehow that helps mine "remember". :)

  3. Marriage is a hard road. My husband and I have seen some of the worst of it but accept things we cannot change and grow from our mistakes. It took him nearly 8 years to start showing love and appreciation. It took me that long to stop complaining and learn to talk things through. As we are both still learning from each other, we are so in love. Perhaps more so than we were when we married.

    1. I totally agree - it is in working through my problems with my spouse that we fall deeper in love. :)

  5. Every time I come to your blog I get a wake up call. I have been praying lately God turn my husband into a frog (not really but you can imagine what I mean.) We've been going through one of those "oh go back to work already, I need PEACE" times and this is a good reminder.

    1. I can so relate! As Billy Graham's wife once said, "Divorce may not be an option, God but how about murder?" ha! Keep praying, girl. God is with you!

  6. My husband does his own laundry :) Thank heavens!
Be strong and look for the positive. Sometimes a simple Thank you goes a long way.

  7. Very interesting question. I'm not really sure what my answer would be...I'll have to think on that.

Laundry just drives me crazy! And since I have so many children, there's never a shortage of it waiting for me ;)

  8. Wonderful post. As I looked at half a basket full of white socks yesterday (my least favorite) I said to myself - this is a new chore for my son. He's seven, its about time he learn what a pain in the but it is to match up the socks. ;-) Going to click over to Moms Together Community. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Oh girl, the socks. What is up with that. I have a Target bag busting at the seams filled with unmatched socks. Every now and then I go through the bag and match up a dozen or so pairs but I barely make a dent... :)
