Let the wise listen and add to their learning.
Proverbs 1:5
Spring Break 2012 was a week packed with firsts:
Clara on her first "real" bike ride |
Hayleigh learned to snow ski.
Clara and Carynne each caught their first fish.
Learning new things is exciting, but it comes with pain.
Clara fell off her bike more than once and skinned her knee.
Hayleigh fell several times at ski school.
Carynne couldn't catch a fish without enduring bugs, minnows and waiting.
I want to go farther with God. I want to experience some new firsts with Him.
I want to be led more by His voice within and less by my own thoughts.
I yearn to draw closer to His purposes and farther from my selfishness.
These firsts will not come without discomfort. I will experience growing pains. But just as my daughters experienced the delight of accomplishment and development, joy awaits me on the other side of my first.
How about you? Does your heart hold a first? Let's take one step closer to our first today.
Hi Shannon - me too, I want to learn more, absorb more and grow more. Great post

Tracy, your comment is beautiful!
DeleteShannon, that was simply beautiful! What a great analogy to explain your heart for more! MORE, more, more, please God! I heard someone say once that everyone wants a miracle but they don't want to go through the pain of getting one. That can be true but God seems to be taking us girls a little deeper. We want all of Him! Thank you Lord!
ReplyDeleteLove this, "everyone wants a miracle but they don't want to go through the pain of getting one." Pure wisdom!
DeleteGreat post, Shannon! Good for you girls. I'm actually feeling farther and farther away recently instead of getting closer. We need to "hang out" more! Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, love hangin' with you girlie. Let's grow closer together!
DeleteWow, it sounds like Spring Break 2012 was adventurous! Ours begins next week. My hubby and I are about to experience a new "first" with God as we endure the beginning stages of a new, and likely final chapter in the health and life of his parents. I pray that I'm wrong, but it's not looking good. Both have been in the hospital this past week and both have bad reports from the doctors. No matter what, I know God will carry us emotionally as He always has with everything else.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you,
~Rosann
Oh Rosann, praying with you for God's strength, comfort and encouragement.
DeleteShannon, I LOVE your blog posts, they are such a blessing to me! Thanks so much for all you do. I am experienceing a new first right now with God, I am fully trusting him in my desisions, we have found land to build our home its been 4 years, and God is now going to bless us. I am excited about this new journey with the Lord, just FULLY TRUSTING him in everything no turning back. Be blessed of the Lord!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. I am praying right now that all who pass through the doors of your new home will be touched by God and let into new or deeper relationship with Him!
DeleteThat's so true - growth takes trust, some hardship and success. Glad your kids had a great fun day!

Isn't it amazing how our children inherently trust their parents? It's such a big responsibility and such a great privilege!
DeleteAwww...that was so nicely put,it made me sniffle a little bit.
ReplyDeleteThis spring break we had a first of here too. There were no broken bones or busted noses :)
Sharon
Ha! See that's the joy of having girls - less broken bones!
DeleteIsn't that the truth?! Well said. Just posted a pic of my youngest riding his bike on my personal blog. Gotta love those firsts!
ReplyDeleteHow precious, Melanie, I'm definitely going to have to check that out. I loved how mine was decked out in pink head to toe and in a dress and heels to bike ride. Such a girl!
DeleteVery beautiful post. My favorite is when you said that experiencing firsts with God won't be easy. This is true but the discomfort is well worth it.
ReplyDeleteAmen, sister!
