My Brush With Fame

The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.
Exodus 33:11

This morning my favorite national Christian radio station, KLove, was broadcasting live from Hope, my church. After I dropped Carynne at Preschool I weighed my options. I could use my feminine wiles and get my hubby, Hope COO, to escort me in to meet them. Or I could listen to my inner voice of better judgment. If I met them it would probably turn out like the last time I met one of my Christian heroes - I'd be struck dumb (and may not be even to speak-ha!).

Three years ago I meandered into a regular church dinner with my hubby. Within minutes my favorite radio pastor, James MacDonald, who I affectionately call Jimmie Mac, came into the room and sat right beside us. At the time Dr. MacDonald was running a James MacDonald look-alike contest on his website. The only words I could think were, "You should enter the Jimmie Mac twin contest. You'd win for sure." Unfortunately even those were peanut buttered to the back of my throat.

Have you ever heard someone list the questions they want to ask God when they get to heaven?

Something tells me in the presence of the Almighty all words are silenced.

Do you, like me, wonder what it would be like to talk to God face to face?

I didn't meet the KLove morning show today. I met with God instead. I was too awestruck by His grace and mercy to talk. I listened instead.

As I listened to the heart of God, He righted my path.

As I pressed my ear close to His chest, He soothed my worries.

As I nestled into His arms, He gave me courage to face my day.

Meeting with Him is the Ultimate brush with fame encounter.

  1. I would soooo love to have a Big Mac with my favorite Priest, but alas, I don't see Padre Pio rising from the dead to eat fries with me. But I would love it! Talk about peanut butter throat!

The end to your blog was simply...beautiful. You made my eyes water

    1. Maybe they'll serve Big Macs in heaven. Good news is they won't make us gain weight!

    2. I have to again the impact of your post was in those three sentences where you didn't meet them but you met God instead. I just love when God uses His awesome power in that way. We are like school kids silenced in order to listen to the teacher!

  2. Brings tears to my eyes. Sometimes when I sense God calling me to spend time with him I want to look over my shoulder and look back with a questioning 'who me?' I long to always wonder over the invitation to sit a while with our All Sufficient King.

  4. I think we all get tongue-tied when we meet someone 'famous', but if we remember we're all children of God, we should be able to meet each other on common ground...lovely post!

Just a reminder, your guest post is up on my blog today! Thanks!

  5. I love this post... it brings tears to m eyes! Our American society is so enamored with "fame" and "famous people"... but most have forgotten the One true being that deserves our time, recognition and desire. If only we could be that excited about meeting with Him each and every day!! :)

  7. I agree...I highly doubt many will be speaking in God's presence when they meet Him...with all the examples in scripture of how people respond to the presence of angels, I think that we'll be pretty much on our faces in His presence!

I am so glad I found your blog, through your visit to mine. I see we have something in common...I truly appreciate the ministry of James MacDonald! Wow...God speaks to me daily through his radio ministry...I've never even thought of meeting him in person, I just try to hear what God wants to say to me through that vessel each day at 1:30!!! =)

God bless Shannon...Following your blog now.

    1. Anita, I know right? Isn't Jimmie Mac just the bomb diggity? He is so anointed of the Lord and speaks directly to my heart. I even downloaded his iPhone app!

Thanks for following. Thrilled that God has connected our hearts!

  8. Ohhhhh my gooodness!!!! You and I must share the same brain! I do that same thing. It doesn't even have to be someone "famous." I get all inspired and want to say thanks to someone and just blow it. I sound like such a dork and wonder if I really am a "relatively" mature Christian after all! Well, maybe we don't share the same brain. Maybe you can at least say thanks without getting tongue-tied! :)

If I ever see you face to face, say in an elevator in Charlotte in July (or some other random place), show me grace!!!

    Happy weekend.

  9. Oooh, I love KLOVE radio! They play some great uplifting music. I love the song "I Can Only Imagine". It captures the idea of being face-to-face with the Master in such a beautiful way. I probably won't be able to speak! I can only imagine falling at His feet and holding onto Him. :-)
