Not Away in a Manger

This Christmas I want Jesus to be born in me.

No I can't go back in time and switch places with Mary. But I don't want Jesus away in a manger. I Him resting in the manger of my heart.

I'm posting today over at Keeping It Personal and I'd love for you to join me there as you let Jesus be born in you... http://keepingitpersonal.com/2012/12/be-born-in-me/

A Little Jesus On Top

Visiting Grandma's house meant Honeycomb for breakfast. She stored it in a big glass jar so we were never sure just how old our cereal was. Worse every morning she sprinkled a little bran on top just to make sure we stayed regular.

Later my life became like that bowl of cereal - stuffed with activities, peoples and places. My life was full to the brim but it wasn't filled. I tried to sprinkle a little Jesus on top of my crowded life...

Do You Love Me More Than These?

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter,
“Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

John 15:15
Scott and I are committed to a budget-balanced, cash only lifestyle. I readily admit he's better at this than me. This is probably why there's an occasional week when I "misplace" a $20. In my mind's accounting I have more money left than I do.

Like the woman who lost one of her ten silver coins, I will think, analyze and recount my steps for as long as it takes to reconcile my cash balance and my mental receipts. (I know, I hear you accountants telling me to just keep a ledger but we all have our issues...) My mind will not relent until every bill is accounted for.

For $20 I will seek until I find.

Sometimes I feel God gently nudge my heart. Do I love Him more than $20? Do I pursue Him with the same relentless passion? What about those who've captured His heart? Do I seek mercy and justice for the Ones He loves?

Today I'm writing at Keeping It Personal. Come on over and go on a treasure hunt with me. Together we will find the heart of God.

Dare to Work Harder than You Dream

God-sized dreams.

We've been talking about them a lot lately. Sometimes God asks us to step beyond the safety net of fear and put feet to our faith. Today I'm facing my fear head on at Keeping It Personal.

Dare to dream with me today. Hop over and let's face our fears together!

Worth the Read

The pain in my shoulder was intense. Each movement brought a new wave of discomfort. With four kids, surgery (i.e. incapacitation) wasn't an option but rehab was. When I first visited Dr. Brad of the Cole Pain Therapy Group I could only raise my left arm 45 degrees from my leg. From the first exam, his confidence was clear. He had the skills and tools to correct my frozen shoulder.

Recently, Dr. Brad asked if I'd write a referral for him on Google places and yelp. I could not be more grateful for his professionalism, kindness and care so my answer was a resounding yes! It took mere moments of my time but I pray God uses my meager offering to attract more patients to this quality practice.

Sometimes the greatest acts of service take the least amount of time to complete. I need to remember that.

Carey Scott
Recently one of my friends asked in a comment here on my blog who are some of the blog writers who most inspire me. The list jumped to my mind immediately. Carey, Heatherly, Teri, Patti and Rachel. It surprised me how quickly I knew the answer but another thought followed in moments. I know how much they inspire me but do they?

Patti Hazlett
If I'm willing to write an internet review for my doctor, how much more willing should I be to write a review of the women whose writing most touches my heart. If you've never read these women, allow me to tell you why you want to.

Carey Scott is one of the most authentic women I've ever known. She writes from the deepest places of her heart. Love spills out with every mark of her pen. If you want to walk through life with a real friend, read Carey.

Heatherly Sylvia
Heatherly Sylvia is the friend you wish you'd met in kindergarten. You read even a few paragraphs of her writing and know life would be smoother if you were walking its' road next to her. She gives you encouragement and strength for the journey through humor and emotion.

Teri Johnson is a visionary. She sees life both as it is and as it can be and equips you with the tools to reach your full potential. She is a cheerleader rooting for God's best in your home, life and family. When you read her, you feel empowered and ready to take life head on.
Teri Johnson

Patti Hazlett is a 360 watt lightbulb of God's grace. She delivers wisdom with such clarity it's like reading a passage of scripture with new eyes. Her supercharged personality shines through her words and gives your heart a new level of resolve and purpose.

Rachel Snyder
Rachel Snyder is a living laugh. She calls herself The Lazy Christian but her readers have no chance at laziness as they read. If her writing doesn't exercise your laughing lungs, nothing will. Better every line is laced not just with wit but wisdom. She talks to the parts of you kept hidden and surfaces God's best within.

I strongly urge you to check out these five women. Your life, home, marriage and parenting will be not only enriched but transformed as you do. They are the epitome of God's best and my life is different because they dared to whisper yes to the call of God to write. Won't you join me as their reader?

I'm overwhelmed -- I don't hear you. “I cry to you, O God, but you don’t answer. I stand before you, but you don’t even look." Job 30:20 I ask you to lead me, guide me, show me...what is my next step? You brought me here, to this place. Now what? Why are You silent? Why do I feel that You're gone, when I know in the depth of my heart You are here?

"... for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6

What am I missing...from Your silence? I'm a broken record praying these words, pleading for you to speak loudly to me. "Father, Open my eyes to see, open my ears to hear, open my heart to know. Show me! I am willing and desire to do Your will not mine. Amen."

Silence.

Okay...I'm getting it. I think. Is this what you want me to hear? To do? To know?

"Be still and know that I am God" Psalm 46:10

How can I be still, when the world around me is going 100 mph? How can I be still when life seems to be all about what we do? How can I be still when I really never have, and it doesn't feel comfortable, I doesn't seem acceptable?

This word still, seems distant and unfamiliar to me.

Still = calm, motionless, quiet. Free from sound or noise; silent. Hushed. Peaceful. Tranquil.

Okay...I'm getting it. Turn it off, ALL of it. Eliminate the distractions. Pay no attention to what others are doing. Log of and disconnect. Stop checking in with everyone. Turn off the ringer and the notifications. Silence the voices and audience of many.

And...finely tune into The audience of ONE.

Okay...I got it. I'm leaning into you. Teach me Father to truly be still and know. I'm willing to listen in your silence.

I got it.

“There are times when silence has the loudest voice” - Leroy Brownlow

Do you know how to be still in this fast paced world? What do you hear when God is silent?
